The Prince of Egypt is my favorite movie. It can be enjoyed by everyone of all ages and all beliefs. It is an animated picture retelling the story about the biblical figure Moses that can be found in Exodus. Exodus is the second book listed in the bible if you ever want to read Moses’s story and freedom of the Hebrew Israeli slaves. The Prince Of Egypt is a DreamWorks and Universal Pictures production. It was directed by Brenda Chapman, Steve Hickner, and Simon Wells. The Prince Of Egypt had a stellar cast such as Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeifer, Danny Glover, and Patrick Stewart etc. The Prince Of Egypt also won an Oscar for best song “When You Believe” performed by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. The Prince of Egypt follows Moses whose mother gave him away in a woven basket to let him escape the Egyptians killing all newborn Hebrew baby boys. The queen who is married to pharaoh finds Moses in this basket and decides to take him in as her second son. Moses growing up with his older brother Ramses, we see their sibling relationship and their dynamic. Moses and Ramses are close and always look out for each other. Ramses has a lot more responsibilities especially since he is next in line for Pharaoh. Moses on the other hand always tried to get Ramses to have some fun. I really love the writing and the directing by setting up the characters and their relationship so we can get emotionally involved in the story. It really helps us relate and understand Moses and Ramses. Things take a turn after a ceremony where Moses runs into his brother and sister Aaron and Miriam, when he discovers that he is not Egyptian, but he is Hebrew. This causes Moses to go into an identity crisis and freaks out which leads him to killing an Egyptian man to get him to stop beating the Hebrew slave. The animation of the facial expressions Moses had and the showing of the internal battle he faced really gave such a beautiful effect in bringing us closer to Moses. Moses runs off to Midian leaving his Egypt life behind and that’s when he has his first encounter with God through a burning bush. The visuals were so amazing in this movie and my favorite visual is the burning bush and how realistic it was in every detail. God instructs Moses and appoints him as the deliverer of God’s people (Hebrew slaves). This conflicts with Moses because going back to Egypt after 40 years means Ramses was now Pharaoh. The battle between two brothers who are against each other but love one another is what makes this movie so great. It depicts a great friendship between siblings but they both had different destinies. I recommend the movie to everyone because it makes you happy, sad, amazed and completely blown away by an animated picture. The stunning visual effects to the phenomenal voice acting. This movie is an underrated gem and a masterpiece.
